SPAN - Student Planners' Action Network

SPAN is a student organization registered with the ECU Student Government Association (SGA).  In 1970, the Student Planning Association Network was created with a purpose to interact with the university and the Planning faculty to promote the academic planning program and the planning profession through involvement in curriculum reviews, university projects which lend themselves to planning practices, legislative actions relating to planning, and educational or recreational activities which promote cooperation and network opportunities. In 2009, the organization's name was changed to the Student Planners' Action Network to better reflect its purpose and goals.

SPAN is involved in many activities. SPAN has hosted planning conferences, assisted in planning research, and provided student support.  Other activities include the publication of SPAN Review, panel discussions, peer advising, and social events.  SPAN, in conjunction with the Planning Alumni Association, co-hosts the annual SPAN Banquet which honors students and alumni.  SPAN also helps publish the annual Planning Alumni Directory each spring.

Membership is open to full and part-time students of East Carolina University with a special interest in Planning.  The officers of SPAN include a President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.   These officers comprise the executive committee.  In the month of May, the executive committee is elected by the members of SPAN for the next school year.  Dr. Dan Marcucci is currently designated as the SPAN faculty sponsor/advisor.
