Degree Options

The BS in Urban and Regional Planning at East Carolina University is designed to prepare competent professionals who have a strong foundation in theories, methods, and techniques of planning with specialty areas in small town and rural planning, coastal and environmental planning, urban design, and GIS applications in planning.  The curriculum has a strong multidisciplinary orientation, and it usually begins  in the second semester of the sophomore year. The planning student will complete core courses in theory, law and techniques and will acquire skills in the application of design, computers, and statistics in planning. Upon completion of this preparation, the student has the option of pursuing one of two emphases in planning.

The degree options of the Planning Program are:

  • Community Planning and Development
  • Coastal Planning and Development

The undergraduate certificate options of the Planning Program are:

  • Urban Design

The Planning Program also offers a graduate planning concentration under the following degree programs:

  • Master of Arts in Geography with a Planning Concentration
  • Masters in Public Administration (MPA) with a Planning Concentration
  • Masters in Business Administration (MBA) with Development and Environmental Planning Concentration

Furthermore, the Planning Program offers many elective courses in participation with the following PhD degree program:

  • PhD in Coastal Resources Management
