Behavioral Neuroscience Lab
Brief Description of Research
Examination of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASDs) using rodents: Our lab investigates the detrimental neurobehavioral effects of developmental alcohol exposure in rodents, to help explain the observations in h
uman cases of FASDs and explore feasible treatment options.  The behavioral component is measured using eyeblink classical conditioning (a form of associative learning) and the neuroscience componentis measured using a variety of different histochemical and morphometrical techniques, including unbiased stereology.

Project VIABLE Lab
Project VIABLE is a research lab funded by a grant from the Institute of Education Sciences of the US Department of Education. It is charged with developing and validating assessment and intervention methodologies for social behavior that are both empirically-supported and feasible for use within school settings. Current research initiatives are being carried out within area public schools.

Center for Collaborative Research in School Psychology
The CCRSP is a laboratory space intended to support, house, and promote collaborative research activities for faculty and graduate students in the School and Pediatric School Psychology Programs. Research conducted through the CCRSP generally has an applied focus on prevention, intervention, and other issues surrounding the delivery of psychological services within school settings. Current research topics include ADHD intervention, adolescent HIV/AIDS prevention knowledge, curriculum-based assessment of early mathematics to inform intervention, promoting recreational reading in elementary school, childhood obesity prevention and intervention, and school-based health centers with a focus on Latino family issues.
Affiliated Faculty
Laura Anderson, Ph.D., Scott Methe, Ph.D., & Christy Walcott, Ph.D.

Positive Psychology Laboratory
The current focus of the lab is on the study of the physiological and health correlates of forgiveness. Adults describe a time of betrayal and we examine heart rate and blood pressure responses, as well as physical and mental health outcome measures.

Cognitive Neuroscience Lab
This Laboratory focuses on conducting psychophysiology(heartrate, temperature, skin conductance, respiration, electromyogram) and electrophysiology (EEG) studies where students can be involved in research. This laboratory conducts a variety of research in the general area of brain function in cognition, affect, sensation/perception, psychophysiology, and health psychology. We also have computing workstations for the analysis of neuroimaging and EEG data, along with other general software tools.

Stress and Health Laboratory
Several research topics are studied in the lab: 1) psychological and physiological responses to chronic and maternal stressors; 2) factors that help protect against the negative effects of stressors and enable people to adapt favorably to stressors; 3) the role of stressors and resilience factors in explaining racial/ethnic and socioeconomic disparities in allostatic load and birth outcomes; and 4) the effectiveness of interventions to protect against the negative effects of stressors, enhance resilient responses to stressors, and reduce health disparities.
