Proposed Curriculum for Multidisciplinary Studies: Russian Studies (BA)

Minimum degree requirement is 120 s.h. of credit as follows:

1. General education requirements (See Section 4, General Education Requirements for all Baccalaureate Degree Programs) 42 s.h.
 

English 1100, 1200 (FC:EN) (6 s.h.)

Health (FC:HL) and Exercise and Sport Science (FC:EX) (3 s.h.) (Select at least one course in each area)

Humanities (FC:HU) and Fine Arts (FC:FA) (10 s.h.) (Select at least one course in the humanities and one course in fine arts)

Mathematics (FC:MA) (3 s.h.)

Science (FC:SC) (8 s.h.) (At least one course must require laboratory work)

Social Science (FC:SO) (12 s.h.) (Select courses from at least three of the areas)
 

 
2. Foreign Language through level 1004 12 s.h.
  It is recommended that BA students take Russian language to satisfy their language requirements:

RUSS 1003. Russian Level III (3)
RUSS 1004. Russian Level IV (3)

Requirements in Russian Studies (24 s.h.):
 

 
  a. Russian Studies Required Courses (6 s.h.)  
  One of the following introductory courses is required (3 s.h.)  
 

RUSI 2001. Introduction to Russian Studies: Humanities (3) (F) (FC:HU) or
RUSI 2002. Introduction to Russian Studies: Social Science (3) (F) (FC:SO) or
RUSI 2003. Introduction to Russian Studies: Fine Arts (3) (F) (FC:FA)
 

 
  The following capstone is required (3 s.h.)  
 

RUSI 4000. Senior Seminar in Russian Studies (3) (S) (P: Consent of instructor or RUSI program director)
 

 
  b. Russian Studies Electives (18 s.h.)  
 

Choose 9 s.h. from each of the two areas below in consultation with the Director.

RUSS 3230. Russian and Soviet Film (3) (FC:HU) (P: RUSS 2120 or permission of instructor)
RUSS 3700. Special Topics in Russian Studies (3) (P: RUSS 2120 or 3220 or 3221 or permission of instructor)

ECON 3365. Russian Economic Transition (3) (FC:SO) (P: ECON 2113, 2133)
HIST 3551. Medieval Russia, 862-1682 (3)
HIST 3552. Imperial Russia, 1682-1917 (3)
HIST 3553. Soviet Russia, 1917-1991 (3)

A maximum of two of the following courses (6 s.h.) can be counted towards the minor electives; however, the Director must approve the course substitution.

Other appropriate courses in humanities, social science, and fine arts may be substituted in consultation with RUSI program Director.
 

 
4. Minor or approved structured electives 24 s.h.
5. A minimum of 24 s.h. from Sections 3 and 4 must be above 2999.  
6. Free electives to complete requirements for graduation.
