Mission
The Center for Diversity and Inequality Research (CDIR) aims to foster applied research to describe and understand human diversity and social inequality as a foundation for education and advocacy, focusing on Eastern North Carolina.
Vision Statement
As a university center, CDIR seeks to contribute to the academic body of knowledge on human diversity and social inequality through peer-reviewed publication. To this end, CDIR serves as a focal point, channeling the energy, interests and talents of faculty in the Department of Sociology and in other departments and schools. Consistent with the principles of engaged scholarship and the service mission of East Carolina University, initiatives and projects targeting human diversity and social inequality with community partners will be emphasized.
