Industrial and Systems Engineering
Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) is the perfect blend of technical engineering skills and people orientation. Industrial and systems engineers focus on the design, analysis, and operation of systems ranging from a single piece of equipment to large business, social and environmental systems. Industrial and systems engineering addresses overall system performance and productivity, responsiveness to customer's needs, and the quality of the products or services produced by the enterprise. This field is not just about manufacturing but also encompasses service industries such as government, health care, transportation, logistics, and consulting. The common goal is improving efficiency, enhancing quality and increasing customer satisfaction.
ECU Industrial and Systems Engineering focuses on developing critical skills in areas such as:
Dr. Michael Borer is a Teaching Instructor in the Department of Engineering. His research interests include manufacturing and continual improvement.
Dr. Gene Dixon is a Professor in the Department of Engineering. His research interests include engineering management and related processes. Specific interests include the role of leaders and followers in the leadership process. This includes quantitative methods of value based decision making including, teams, trust and culture. Ties to the nuclear industry represent interests in waste reduction, waste minimization, facilities decommissioning, decontamination and remediation. Business experience provides on-going interests in personal productivity and performance. Educational research interests include industry-academic engagement in building student and professional success skills.
Dr. BJ Kim is an Associate Professor in the Department of Engineering. His research interests include the design of data analysis models based on nonparametric/functional analysis, information and decision systems for supply chain and logistics management, empirical models for intervening slips/falls in older population.
Dr. Jinkun Lee is an Associate Professor in the Department of Engineering. His research interests include mathematical optimization of complex dynamic systems. He is currently using both model-based and data-driven optimization approaches in the domain of operations research and manufacturing.
Industrial and Systems engineers are in demand in every aspect of industry, including sales, marketing, personnel, and manufacturing. They are employed to design, analyze, optimize and improve production systems in business and industrial settings. The Industrial and Systems engineering field also encompasses service industries such as government, health care, transportation, logistics, and consulting.
