David Dorfman Dance and Sly and the Family Stone find common purpose in the prophetic possibilities of music and dance that invite everyday people to find ardor in the muck and mess––the funk––of life. Prophets of Funk mixes theatre and dance in full-bodied, emotional and exuberant movement, driven by the popular—and populist—funk music of Sly and The Family Stone. This new work by David Dorfman Dance reminds us in the face of the funk of life, there are hopes and aspirations that reside in all of us. Sponsored in part by South Arts: Dance Touring Initiative. While in residence, David Dorfman will direct extensive activities in the community. He’ll set an original work on ECU dance majors, who will open this performance.
