WZMB:

•is located in the basement of Mendenhall Student Center, covers all of Pitt County; can reach over to areas such as Tarboro and Wilson; is on-air 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year; target audience is the students, faculty, and staff of East Carolina University; format of the station includes all types of music, with specific genres at scheduled times.
•Hiring for every position occurs each semester, and students can re-apply for future semesters.
•Positions at WZMB are restricted to current university students with a GPA of 2.25 or above.
•All positions are paid at the station. DJs are paid hourly, while executive staff members get a salary.
•The station currently offers shifts that run from 8-5 Monday to Friday. Shifts are scheduled to accommodate the student’s class schedule.
•WZMB also conducts on-air interviews Monday through Friday from 5-6 PM by appointment.
•No experience is required to work at WZMB.
•    WZMB offers the following positions to students:
➢    DJ- Plays music, grant announcements, PSAs, hosts shows, and operates automation system using OMT ON-AIR software. Gathers and reports news and sports for scheduled broadcasts during air shift. Also responsible for being creative and discussing events pertaining to target audience and events around campus. Assists at promotional events and remotes held by station. Responsible for following all FCC and media board policies during air shift. Amount of hours varies, but the average is 4-6 hours/week.
➢    Music Manager- Oversees all music that is played on-air. Approves and uploads music to be placed in the music library for use by DJs and the automation system. Works as a liaison between the station and music distributors and production companies. Creates daily playlists for the automation system using OMT Log Tools software and OMT Production. Works as a member of the station executive staff along with Production Manager and Student Assistant Media Coordinator to make important decisions regarding station operations. Works a minimum of 10 hours/week.
➢    Production Manager- Produces all grant announcements, public service announcements, station IDs, teasers, and promotional announcements for the station. Uses software such as Adobe Audition to produce announcements, along with OMT production to insert files into the music library. Works as a member of the station executive staff. Works a minimum of 10 hours/week.
➢    Student Assistant Media Coordinator- Responsible for overseeing all operations of the student-run radio station. Ensures compliance with FCC laws, along with media board policies. Hires and trains all DJs, as well as provides daily supervision. Works as programming manager by ensuring DJ compliance with FCC regulations by monitoring newscasts and music being played. Trains and leads all executive staff members in job responsibilities, equipment use, meetings and station decisions. Provides disciplinary action for staff members in violation of policy. Responsible for scheduling all trainings, meetings, and promotional events. Also responsible for overseeing proper operation of broadcasting equipment and calling engineer if problems exist. Represents station at media board meetings, school functions, and other events. Approves and schedules guest speakers and on-air interviews. Responsible for contacting area businesses and organizations to create grant announcements and bring in money for the station. Duties also include ensuring that grantors are satisfied with announcements and understand contractual obligations. Responsible for creating ideas for station promotions and events for listening audience on-air and around campus. Approves and schedules all public service announcements for airplay. Works with professional staff Student Media Coordinator by informing coordinator of station issues. Schedules visits to other stations for staff professional development, as well as brings in guest speakers. Works a minimum of 15 hours/week.

•    The automation system and other software used at WZMB are up to date and the exact same software that is currently being used by many professional and private stations all over the United States, including many within a 100-mile radius of the Greenville area. Students can market themselves to potential employers by already being trained in the use of software programs being used at their station.

•    WZMB is currently in the process of acquiring new hardware equipment. Once purchased, the new equipment will serve as a customized, state of the art tool to assist the station in bringing a better quality of information and entertainment to listeners, as well as advanced training for students to carry on with them after graduation.
