Dear Friends and Alumni,
Thank you for your support of and interest in the ECU School of Communication. As a valued member of the ECU community, you are invited to join the
CommCrew: Friends & Alumni of the School of Communication as a charter member.
In 2005, the School of Communication established CommCrew, an affiliation of alumni and friends who support the legacy, mission and growth of the School of Communication. The CommCrew has proven to be a welcome resource for alumni looking to stay in touch with the School.
Comm Crew projects and activities we look forward to include guest lectures and workshops, a professional advisory board, career support information, and networking.
The “Crew” has already managed to create and find funding for several scholarships for the School. Other successful projects include: Web site discussions, a biannual newsletter, a nostalgic photograph exhibit in Joyner E. (which we'll continue to expand), and the organization of an annual reunion banquet.
As more and more alumni join the CommCrew, more benefits will be reaped by students, alumni and others.

CommCrew meeting minutes for CommCrew Meeting
October 29, 2009
Members in Attendance: Cyndee Mueller, Linda Kean, Mary Jane Gaddis, Kelly Jones, Heather King, Kara Loftin, Kris Kirschbaum, Jessica Wilson, Larry Auld and Nancy Ball.
1) Welcome from Linda Kean
a. New Members:
- Jessica Wilson: College Special Assistantship recipient and will represent the Grad School.
- Dr. Kris Kirschbaum: will represent the SOC faculty.
2) SOC Notes (Linda Kean)
a. Mailed out annual solicitation letters from Linda Kean and Mary Schulken to all alumni.
b. Reminder to think of some more ideas specifically for CommCrew each year or semester to develop identity. Michael Aho had once mentioned a social networking site.
c. The High School Media Workshop had a successful 2nd year with 7 high schools and over 150 students. Heather King and Mary Schulken did an awesome job presenting.
d. The CommCrew Banquet has been set for April 24, 2010. The awards ceremony will be on Saturday night before the banquet and the film festival opening night will be after the banquet with student and alumni film shorts.
e. CommCrew Budget: $286 currently with an annual goal set at $3500.
3) Development Update (Mary Jane Gaddis)
a. The Telethon annual fund raiser took place the week of October 19th. Mary Jane and Linda both helped with this event.
b. Alumni newsletter will continue to go out via email. The email addresses were updated during the Telethon event.
c. There was discussion of CommCrew branding tools (i.e. mouse pads) which may be donated by a CommCrew member. Kean will discuss this with him in the near future and will have some suggestions at the next meeting for us to go over.
4) By-Laws (Mary Jane Gaddis)
Mary discussed amending the CommCrew By-Laws. She has made some recommendations and these were handed out. Please look over by the next meeting and the changes will be voted on at the November meeting.
5) Distinguished Alumni Award
- This will be awarded the night of the banquet. The deadline was extended until January 15, 2010.
