Student Organizations

Students in the School of Communication may participate in a variety of organizations. Our current organizations are listed below along with their basic descriptions.

Communication Graduate Student Association (CGSA)

Graduate students in our program are encouraged to participate in CGSA, the goals of which are to: Facilitate, promote, and provide academic, professional, and social support for MA students in the School of Communication.

National Broadcast Society (NBS), ECU Chapter

The National Broadcast Society goes beyond the classroom to prepare college students and entry-level professionals for careers in the electronic media. Our mission is accomplished through six areas of focus: 1) Promoting excellence, 2) Providing exposure to the electronic media industry, 3) Providing opportunities for ethical and responsible leadership, 4) Providing advanced media programs, 5) Providing assistance in career preparation, and 6) Encouraging engagement in community service projects.

Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), ECU Chapter

The ECU chapter of PRSSA strives to cultivate a favorable and mutually advantageous relationship between students and public relations practitioners. The student society aims to foster an: 1) Understanding of current theories and practices in the profession, 2) Appreciation of the highest ethical ideals and principles, 3) Awareness of an appropriate professional attitude, and 4) Appreciation of Associate Membership in PRSA leading to accredited membership.

Toastmasters at ECU

Toastmasters International is an organization designed to help members become better speakers and leaders. Toastmasters at ECU provides students with an excellent opportunity to build and enhance public speaking and leadership skills in a supportive and friendly environment. Guests are always welcome to attend our meetings.
