Research Interests: Research publications include articles in Electronic News and Women &Language, and several book chapters. Dr. McLaughlin was the 2011 recipient of the Organization for the Study of Communication, Language, and Gender's Top Conference paper award. She has presented papers at the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications, The Broadcast Educator's Association and the DC Health Conference. In addition, she is a co-investigator for a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant in a study exploring the County Health Rankings in North Carolina.
