PRSSA

ECU has its own chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America. During the Spring 2008 semester, PRSSA holds general meetings every Monday at 5:30 p.m. in Joyner East 201. The executive board meets every Thursday evening as well.

The purpose of the ECU Chapter of the PRSSA is to cultivate a favorable and mutually advantageous relationship between students and professional public relations practitioners.

The student society aims to foster the following:

  • Understanding of current theories and procedures of the profession
  • Appreciation of the highest ethical ideals and principles
  • Awareness of an appropriate professional attitude
  • Appreciation of Associate Membership in PRSA and eventually accredited membership

The mission of PRSSA is

  • to serve our members by enhancing their knowledge of public relations and providing access to professional development opportunities;

  • to serve the public relations profession by helping to develop highly qualified, well-prepared professionals.

ECU has its own chapter of the National Broadcasting Society. During Spring 2008, NBS meets Mondays at 4 p.m. in Joyner E. 201.

The National Broadcasting Society goes beyond the classroom to prepare college students and entry-level professionals for careers in the electronic media. This mission is accomplished through six areas of focus:

1) Promoting excellence
2) Providing exposure to the electronic industry
3) Providing opportunities for ethical and responsible leadership
4) Providing advance media programs
5) Providing assistance in career preparations
6) Encouraging engagement in community service projects

Pi Kappa Delta is a national honorary consisting of educators, students and alumni committed to encouraging the education of articulate citizens through a three-part focus: the commitment to and promotion of ethical, humane and inclusive communication and educational practices; the commitment to and promotion of professional development of forensics educators; and the commitment to and promotion of comprehensive forensics programming.

The focus is enacted through philanthropic and social activities that focus on the practice and cultivation of the communication arts.
