Jeff Elwell photoWelcome to the website of College of Fine Arts and Communication at East Carolina University. Whether you are a prospective student or faculty member, an alumnus or a potential donor, or are simply curious about the arts at East Carolina, this site has been created with you in mind. You will find information about our four schools, our degree programs, our faculty, our students, and the latest news and calendar information.

Founded in 2003, the College continues to grow and thrive.  We have more than 160 faculty members and 1800 students in the four schools. We offer the BA, BFA, BM, BS, MA, MAEd, MFA, and MM degrees. Alumni of the four schools include: actress Sandra Bullock and Kevin Williamson (Scream, Dawson's Creek) in Theatre and Dance; Emmy-award winning composer Velton Ray Bunch, jazz drummer and acclaimed author Rick Latham, and the late jazz pianist and television personality Loonis McGlohon (who wrote the theme to Charles Kurault's "On the Road") from the School of Music; the celebrated Seagrove area potter Ben Owen (tapped by National Geographic and Smithsonian as subject matter, among other honors) from the School of Art and Design; and actress Emily Procter (West Wing, CSI: Miami) and Maureen O'Boyle, the youngest and first woman to solo anchor a nationally syndicated news magazine, "EXTRA", from the School of Communication.

Every year the College presents more than 250 performances and exhibits on campus, including Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival, Billy Taylor Jazz Festival, NewMusic@ECU Festival, ECU Opera Theatre, ECU/Loessin Playhouse, ECU/Loessin Summer Theatre, and exhibitions in the Gray Gallery.

I invite you to explore our College and East Carolina University through our website and to visit our beautiful campus. You will find that the East Carolina is a strong and diverse university offering a great education at an affordable price.

Our College engages and makes connections throughout the region, the state, and the country through our distance education offerings, our dance, music, and theatre performances and the work of our world-class faculty.  I am proud to be the first permanent dean of this fine institution.

Dr. Jeffery Scott Elwell
Professor and Dean
