The Reinhart Challenge
This is a great opportunity to give to the School of Music and have your gift matched by the Reinhart Foundation at the same time! Here's more...
The “Reinhart Challenge” began in 2005 when Bill Reinhart (BM '77, Music Education) read in Tones (our semi-annual newsletter) that the A. J. Fletcher Foundation board was phasing out their annual scholarship gifts in order to redirect their philanthropic interests. An article in Tones asked for help to survive the loss, and Mr. Reinhart responded by funding several flagship scholarships.
But the process of helping his alma mater got him thinking about the other 2,600 alumni. How many give to the School of Music?
The Reinhart Foundation approved a challenge grant to the School of Music to encourage the participation of all School of Music alumni to fund an endowed scholarship honoring School of Music emeritus faculty emeriti (click to view emeriti listing).
The terms? Gifts would be matched, dollar-for-dollar, individual gifts up to $1,000 and all gifts up to $10,000. Donations must be new money, not payment on existing pledges. Gifts of $10 and more would be acknowledged with a letter for tax purposes. Gifts of $100 or more would entitle the donor to recognize a Faculty Emeritus on a plaque mounted in the A.J. Fletcher Music Center.
To date with your help we have raised over $100,000 and created an endowed scholarship honoring School of Music faculty. Since we began the Challenge many of you expressed fond memories of faculty members who you would like to honor but were not emeritus faculty. Since the Challenge is about building a School of Music scholarship endowment, your gift of $100 or more can recognize ANY past or present faculty member on the plaque in the A.J. Fletcher Music Center. No matter what your ability, please consider a financial gift at any level to assist in this endeavor. ¬
Please support the School of Music Faculty Scholarship Challenge and mail your gift today to Mary Jane Gaddis, Director of Development, College of Fine Arts and Communication, East Carolina University, 102 Erwin Building, Greenville, NC 27858; 252.328.1268 firstname.lastname@example.org
(Please make checks payable to "ECU Foundation - Music" and include "Reinhart" in the memo line.)
