Dr. Andrea VanDeusen is assistant professor of choral music education/conductor at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, where she teaches music education courses and conducts the University Chorale. Prior to joining the faculty at ECU, VanDeusen completed her doctoral studies at Michigan State University, where she studied music education and choral conducting and taught and assisted courses in music education. In her dissertation, VanDeusen explored the impact of a short-term cultural immersion field experience on pre-service music teachers' beliefs about teaching students whose cultural backgrounds differed from their own. Dr. VanDeusen is a charter member of mirabai, a twenty-eight voice professional level women's ensemble under the direction of Dr. Sandra Snow. VanDeusen holds master of music and bachelor of music degrees in music education from Western Michigan University. She has held teaching positions in public, private, and international schools in Michigan, New Jersey and Switzerland.
