Francesco Izzo
(musicology)

Ph.D. New York University, musicology. Postdoctoral Fellowship in Italian Opera Studies at NYU 2003-2005. His research focuses on nineteenth-century opera, the cultural history of music, music and politics, vocal performance practice, and source studies. His work has been published in Acta Musicologica, Journal of Musicology, Nineteenth-Century Music Review, Rivista Italiana di Musicologia, Studies in Music, Studi Musicali, the latest edition of Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, and in several books and congress reports. He is the editor of Verdi's Un giorno di regno, in preparation for the Works of Giuseppe Verdi series published by Ricordi and University of Chicago Press. He is Associate Director of the American Institute for Verdi Studies and Assistant Editor of the Verdi Forum. Dr. Izzo has received grants from the American Musicological Society, the British Academy, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. As a pianist he has performed internationally as a soloist and with orchestra, and currently specializes in the performance of art song and salon music of Risorgimento Italy and Victorian England.
