Kenny Garrett Quintet,
Dr. Arthur Dawkins
Kenny Garrett was named “Best Alto Saxophonist" in the 2012 77th Annual DownBeat Readers’ Poll. He is Grammy-nominated for Best Improvised Jazz Solo and Best Instrumental Jazz Album, and the 2013 NAACP Image Award: “Outstanding Jazz Album."
Over the course of a stellar career that has spanned more than 30 years, saxophonist Garrett has become the preeminent alto saxophonist of his generation. From his first gig with the Duke Ellington Orchestra (led by Mercer Ellington) through his time spent with musicians such as Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw, Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers and Miles Davis, Garrett has always brought a vigorous yet melodic, and truly distinctive, alto saxophone sound to each musical situation.
Arthur Dawkins is a saxophonist/woodwind specialist. Retired from Howard University as professor of jazz studies, he was one of the first African American contractors for professional theater in the Washington, DC, Metropolitan Area Arena Stage, The National Theater and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
