The East Carolina University Young Artist Competition for Pre-College Pianists and Organists is designed to inspire young musicians in our region to strive for the highest level of musicianship and technical accomplishment in piano and organ performance. The piano competition is open to students aged 12-18 of any teacher of piano within the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia; the organ competition is open to any pre-college student in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and Florida.
The piano competition and awarding of prizes will take place on Saturday, April 13, 2013, with pianists in both Junior and Senior Divisions performing at ECU’s Fletcher School of Music. Contestants in both divisions perform on Steinway concert grands.
The organ competition, which will take place on April 11-13, 2013, offers organ competitors the opportunity to perform on the Perkins and Wells Memorial Organ, C.B. Fisk, Op. 126, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, which borders the ECU campus. The guest artist and judge for the 2013 competition will be Gail Archer from New York City (Columbia University: Barnard College and Vassar College) who will present a program of American music on the Fisk organ.
