The ASTA String Education Scholarship The North Carolina American String Teachers Association scholarship has been established to encourage young string players to pursue a career in music education. The scholarship will be awarded to one high school senior who is a resident of North Carolina, plays a string instrument, and intends on majoring in music education at a North Carolina college or university. The recipient of this award will receive $1,000 towards tuition as well as a one-year student membership to ASTA. Guidelines: To be eligible for this one-year award, applicants must meet the following criteria: - Be a high school senior
- Play a string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass, harp, or guitar).
- Be a member of their school orchestra (if one exists).
- Be a resident of North Carolina.
- Secure a recommendation letter from a private teacher or orchestra director who is a member of the American String Teachers Association.
- Have applied to an accredited college or university to major in music education for the fall semester immediately following high school graduation.
- Have a high school cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher (on a 4-point scale).
- Submit an audition tape/CD (two contrasting selections totaling no more than 15 minutes in length).
- Complete an application and include a one-page essay explaining

- b. How this scholarship will benefit your future plans.
