NC ASTA 2008 State Competition
ASTA 2009 National String Competition


The National Solo Competition is open to ASTA members or students of a current ASTA member with instrument categories of Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Harp, and Guitar. Participants must first compete at the state level. For entry into the National ASTA Solo Competition semi-final round, each state competition chair submits to the national chair applications, fees, and recordings of contestants from his/her state who have been selected by competing in the state competition.
  • When:  November 1, 2008 from 9 AM to 2 PM.
  • Where:  North Carolina School of the Arts.
  • pplication Deadline:  Postmarked by October 1, 2008 (see application below).
  • Prizes: Students will receive written comments. Prizes are $500 dollars for state level winner of Senior division and $300 for state level winner of the Junior division.
  • Winners of each division will be asked to perform for a teacher luncheon at the annual NCMEA conference in Winston-Salem.

All contestants must arrange for their own accompanist.  If you cannot bring one with you to the state competition, please contact Dr. Brooks Whitehouse at the email below for accompanists in the Triad area. Fees and rehearsals are to be negotiated directly between accompanist and the contestant.
 
Registration fee for the competition is $20.00. The completed registration form and fee should be mailed to the address below, postmarked by October 1st, 2008:
