The Eastern Youth Orchestra (EYO) is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization founded in 1980 for the purpose of sponsoring a youth orchestra of outstanding young instrumentalists in the coastal plains region of North Carolina.

The EYO is actually three orchestras!  The Preparatory Youth Orchestra is for young string players from the fourth through 6th grades who are ready for their first ensemble playing experience. The Junior Orchestra
includes students in the fifth through eighth grades. The Senior Orchestra is made up of high school students and includes strings, winds, brass and percussion.

Students audition each year and are assigned to one of these three orchestras. Assignments to the orchestras are made by the conductors and are based on an assessment of the student's age, playing level and music reading abilities.

More questions? Check our FAQ (frequently asked questions section) for details on who can audition, who conducts the EYO, why our community needs the EYO, arranging an audition, and more.
