Dale Warland Conductor, Composer Thursday, January 15 Dale Warland has made an indelible impression on the landscape of contemporary choral music. As founder of the Dale Warland Singers, he introduced a vocal ensemble famous for its exquisite sound, technical finesse, and stylistic range. Warland remains an active guest conductor, composer, teacher, and producer of choral programs for public radio, and his compositions and arrangements have been performed and recorded by choruses accross the country. Warland is a past recipient of the Michael Korn Founder’s Award, the United States’ highest honor for a choral conductor, and throughout his distinguished career he has received numerous awards and accolades. Warland is committed to sharing his knowledge of the choral arts, and he continues to lecture and serve as cochair of both the choral and recording panels of the National Endowment for the Arts. A consummate educator, he holds honorary doctorates from Macalester College and the University of Minnesota and a Distinguished Master Artist Award from the University of South Florida.

Dr. William Weinert Conductor Friday, January 16 Dr. William Weinert has served as professor of conducting and the director of choral activities at the Eastman School of Music since 1994. In addition, he supervises the master’s and doctoral programs in choral conducting, and conducts the Eastman Chorale and the Eastman-Rochester Chorus. Apart from his duties at Eastman, Weinert has also conducted, taught master classes, and served as a clinician and adjudicator throughout United States, Europe, and the Far East. Weinert holds both a doctorate and master’s degree in musical arts from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, a master’s degree in conducting from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, and a bachelor’s degree in music education from Oberlin College. He has previously served on the faculties of the University of Wisconsin–Parkside, University of Wisconsin–Madison, and the University of Southern Mississippi and served for three summers as guest professor at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, Germany. He has published articles on the music of Georg Schumann and Melchior Franck and is currently editor of The American Choral Review, the journal of the American Choral Foundation.

Dr. Craig Arnold Conductor Saturday, January 17 Dr. Craig Arnold is the director of choral activities, conductor of the Nordic Choir, and professor of music at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. He previously served as director of choral activities at Western Michigan University and Capital University. Arnold earned a doctorate in conducting from the Eastman School of Music, a master’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, and a bachelor’s degree from St. Olaf College. He has served as guest lecturer at the St. Petersburg (Russia) Conservatory and has conducted choirs and orchestras at New York City’s Carnegie Hall and Weill Recital Hall. He has frequently appeared as guest conductor, clinician, and presenter in Japan, England, Scotland, Germany, France, Italy, Wales, Hong Kong, China, and extensively throughout the United States. Arnold’s extensive résumé includes high school teaching experience from positions in Iowa and Minnesota and music ministry experience from serving on church staffs in Minnesota, Iowa, Ohio, and Michigan. He was also formerly the music director for Manhattan Concert Productions and conductor of the New York City Chorale and Chamber Orchestra.

Dr. Daniel Bara Dr. Daniel Bara is an associate professor of music, director of choral activities, and instructor of conducting and choral literature at East Carolina University. A recent recipient of the Robert L. Jones Award for Outstanding Teaching and the UNC Board of Governors Distinguished Professor for Teaching Award, Bara heads ECU’s program of four university choral ensembles, administers the master’s of music degree in choral conducting, and is the founder of the East Carolina University Summer Choral Conducting Institute. He received his doctor of musical arts degree in conducting from the Eastman School of Music, where he was also awarded the Walter Hagen Conducting Prize in May 2001.

The East Carolina University Chamber Singers The East Carolina University Chamber Singers is the most selective of four university choral ensembles at ECU. Consisting primarily of music majors, the ensemble has recently performed by invitation at state, regional, and national conventions of the American Choral Directors Association, including consecutive regional and national appearances at the ACDA Southern Division Convention 2006 and the National Convention in Miami in 2007. A champion of 20th and 21st century music, the Chamber Singers also collaborate regularly with the ECU Early Music ensemble. Since 2001, the ECU Chamber Singers have been under the direction of Dr. Daniel Bara and have sung on concert tours in North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey, including a performance at the Washington National Cathedral in the spring of 2005. The Chamber Singers first professional recording for Gothic Records, Greater Love, was released internationally in November 2007.
