The summer months in the School of Music are full of week-long camps, multiple-day workshops, seminars, and other special events for all ages. Check out our summer programs below. We look forward to seeing you here this summer! May, 2008 World Music Drumming Workshop May 16-17, 2008. Presented by Will Schmid, Ph.D., and targeted at K-12 arts educators and K-12 school counselors, participants will learn fundamentals of world music drumming (WMD) in order to bring a meaningful multi-cultural experience back to their students. WMD fosters community awareness and an appreciation of cultural diversity through it's focus on world music. Emphasis will focus on helping students build important life skills such as listening, teamwork, discipline and respect for others through the WMD Curriculum. If possible, participants should bring one drum. This is a "hands on" workshop! June, 2008 Keyboard Camp  June 9-13, 2008. This popular summer program offers a wide variety of opportunities to young pianists from ages 7 through high school, including private and group instruction in piano (classical and jazz), harpsichord, and organ for pre-college students as well as recitals and concerts. Band Camp  June 15-20, 2008. For Grades 6-12 band students: Participants in this resident summer program enjoy full concert band, small ensemble, and solo performance opportunities. Special coaching will be available in jazz performance techniques as well. Fun activities include Movie Night, use of the Student Rec Center pools and a dance with DJ. 2008 FORMS ARE NOW AVAILABLE Choral Conducting Institute & Summer Choral Camp  June 22-27, 2008. The Summer Choral Conducting Institute is a week-long workshop for teachers, church musicians, graduate students and other aspiring conductors who wish to grow as artists, musicians, and leaders through daily seminars, conducting master classes, discussions, peer interaction, and ensemble singing. The Summer Choral Camp opens its doors to all rising seventh-grade through twelfth-grade singers desiring the opportunity for great music-making, great friendship, and great fun. This weeklong camp will create a community of young singers who love choral music and desire to become better singers and musicians. July, 2008 North Carolina Suzuki Institute at ECU  July 6-11, 2008 (July 5-12, 2008 for Advanced Chamber Music Institute); The North Carolina Suzuki Institute provides an opportunity to study the philosophy and teaching of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki. Guitar Workshop July 12-15, 2008.This workshop is open to students of all skill levels who wish to acquire or improve skills on the classical guitar. Students will have the opportunity to learn from an internationally-known faculty as well as hear them perform in public recital. Meridian Seminar Not planned for Summer 2008. This seminar is designed for college and high school brass & percussion students, community musicians, and teachers (college and continuing education credit is available through ECU). Vocal Pedagogy Workshop Not planned for Summer 2008. The ECU Vocal Pedagogy Workshop is a two-day clinic for singers, voice teachers, and high school, church, and university choral directors. It offers the aspiring voice professional practical ways to employ recent scientific discoveries to teaching and singing. |
