Applicants for the MM in Theory-Composition (Music Theory concentration) should submit the following materials in support of their application for the graduate program:
Personal statement: Typed 1-2 page essay containing a brief discussion of your
background and musical training as well as a statement of your professional goals;
Two samples of analytical papers which demonstrate musical analysis and
language/writing skills.
Candidates for the MM in Theory-Composition (Music Theory concentration) must:
- Submit an analytical thesis of substantial proportions, written with faculty approval, and under faculty supervision;
- Satisfy the following Minimum degree requirement of 32 semester hours, as follows:

Core: 18 s.h.; MUSC 6006, 6016, 6327, 6328, 6887, 7000

Electives: 4 s.h.
- Secondary Areas of Emphasis:
Performance Practice: Any MM Student may elect a secondary area of emphasis in Performance Practice by completing a minimum of 6 s.h. from the following: MUSC 5887, 5897, 6855, 6898.
