Brian Haverlock awarded Pollock-Krasner Grant
Greene Contemporary is proud to announce that BRIAN HAVERLOCK has been awarded a $20,000 Pollock-Krasner Grant. The Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Inc. was established by Lee Krasner a painter and the widow of Jackson Pollock at her death in 1985, with the sole purpose of providing financial assistance to individual visual artists of established ability. In 2006-2007 the Foundation awarded 148 artists awards to total over 3 million dollars.

Brian Haverlock's most recent show with Greene Contemporary was called "Godseeker: A Return to Origins" and was on view October 6 through October 27, 2007. Haverlock says that he draws "inspiration from life experiences as well as sacred scripture, symbols and art history." He is fascinated by the aesthetic qualities of antique photographs. He crafts his small works with meticulous attention to detail. His images are made with a lead graphite under drawing and oil paint glazes on heavy Bainbridge board. Although inspired by 19th century daguerreotypes and carte de visite portraits, the linear quality of Haverlock's work recalls the art of Dürer and others from the late15th and early 16th century Renaissance in Northern Europe.

Haverlock began drawing in the 1970's living with his parents in a small town in North Dakota. There Haverlock says he "was influenced by the vast open spaces, the big skies and the roaming buffalo." In 1999, his first breakthrough exhibition was at the Art of the Northeast USA: 50th Annual Juried Art Exhibition in Connecticut, juried by Allan Stone. Since then he has had opportunities to show with the Allan Stone Gallery and other galleries in New York. Haverlock is a recipient of the 2005 John Ringling Artist Grant awarded by the Sarasota County Arts Council.

Haverlock graduated from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina with a BFA in painting. He completed an MA in Theology at the Washington Theological Union in Washington, D.C.. His concentration and thesis was in liturgy. He lives in Englewood, Florida with his wife Christine.
