Craig Malmrose is a graphic designer with many years of experience in creating visual solutions for businesses and corporations, non-profit groups and benevolent organizations. This work has won numerous awards for excellence in design at the local, regional and national levels including being recently honored and published by The American Advertising Federation and Print Magazine.

He holds degrees from The State University of New York and the Rochester Institute of Technology where he studied graphic design, typography, visual semiotics and computer programming.

In addition to being a successful graphic designer, Mr. Malmrose is the founder and owner of the Trade Union Press, a private press facility devoted to the preservation and practice of historical typographical methodology and fine printing. Mr. Malmrose has produced notable posters, broadsides, books and other material using traditional letterpress processes.

He resides just south of the Great Dismal Swamp with three cats and an assortment of comely reptiles. He always passes on the left and returns his videos on time.

Gunnar Swanson graphic designer and writer. His graphic design has won over a hundred awards and publications for trademark, publication, type, packaging, and graphic design from the AIGA, Print, Graphis, How, the American Corporate Identity series, and other graphic design organizations, books, and magazines.

His articles on graphic design subjects have been published by How, Design Issues, the AIGA Journal of Graphic Design, Virginia Commonwealth University, Print, Step, Eye, and others. His writing is included in several major graphic design anthologies, translated into Spanish, and published internationally. He is the editor and designer of the Allworth Press book Graphic Design & Reading and one of the authors of the popular graphic design blog Speak Up.

Swanson has a BA degree in art history from UCLA and an MFA in graphic design from California State University Fullerton. Before coming to East Carolina University he taught at the Otis College of Art and Design and the University of California Davis, headed the graphic design program at the University of Minnesota Duluth, and directed the multimedia program at California Lutheran University.

Kate LaMere attained her Ph.D. in design from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, in 2006. Before receiving her doctoral degree, Dr. LaMere practiced graphic design as part of an in-house marketing team at an architecture and engineering firm in Portland, Oregon. Dr.LaMere received a B.F.A. in graphic design from Iowa State University and studied design history at the Bard Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts, Design, and Culture in New York City. Dr. LaMere's current research focuses on networks of power relations within graphic design education and the profession. She conducts qualitative research that integrates methods and theories from other disciplines, such as cultural studies, history, sociology, and anthropology, Dr. LaMere strives to better under the nature of graphic design professional practice. In addition to these interests, Dr. LaMere maintains a graphic design practice, Kable design + research, that focuses on print and identity system design. She also makes and exhibits artists books that push the definition of the "book." lamerek@ecu.edu
