With 700+ undergraduate students, 50+ graduate students, and approximately 50 faculty members, the School of Art and Design at East Carolina University is the largest art school in North Carolina and one of the largest in the Southeast. Students come from not only North Carolina, but from other states and several foreign countries. More than half of new freshman have had at least two years of art in high school while approximately forty percent have had three or more years.
News and Events
Each year the School of Art and Design hosts many visiting artists. The Carol Grotnes Belk Distinguished Chair directs the program. One or more teach full-time for one or two semesters. Others visit the School for a few days providing a public lecture and often a show in our Gray Gallery. Some visiting artists offer workshops, participate in critiques and visit student and faculty studios. The visiting artist program is an important opportunity for students, faculty and the public to hear varying perspectives on art.
