The newly renovated metal studios have\state of the art ventilation in every area including soldering, casting, electroforming, enameling, acid etching, bead/sand blasting, and a polishing and abrasives area.  There are 6 stainless digitally controlled kilns for enameling with individual ventilation hoods over each.  Two large multipurpose rooms have areas for forming and raising with a good collection of hammers and stakes, a spray etcher, rectifier and new electroforming tank, hydraulic presses, sanding and polishing equipment, a bead blaster, a variety of shears, a band saw, drill press, and centrifugal and vacuum casting equipment with a large digitally controlled burnout kiln, a wax injector and vulcanizer.

Undergraduate students are accepted into the program through portfolio review, after their second studio class.  Once accepted, each metals major has an individual workbench in a room adjacent to the large multipurpose tool room.

A separate graduate studio is nearby, spacious and quiet, providing work benches for 6-8 graduate students with individual, ventilated soldering stations.  The graduate studio also includes ventilated areas for enameling and etching, a metal lathe, milling machine, power roll mill, buffer, wet drum sander, drill press, shear, forming and raising area and an extensive collection of books, catalogs and slides. There is a computer in the graduate facility and also a light booth permanently set up for shooting artwork.

The media center is a few doors down the hall with more computer access, a slide library and an extensive collection of periodicals.  Nearby and on the same floor there are 2 large computer labs which offer all students in the School of Art and Design access to scanners, printers and two and three dimensional digital coursework.  All areas within the School of Art and Design encourage interdisciplinary work and students have access to a large woodshop facility, and other studio classes such as woodworking, sculpture, photography, painting, ceramics, printmaking or computer aided design.
