Current Activities

Each year students have opportunities to participate in one or two visiting artist workshops as well as holiday sales of student work that are sponsored by the ECU Metals Guild.  The metal design graduate students and the Metals Guild hosts an INTERCOLLEGIATE METALS SYMPOSIUM each January, with students and faculty from at least 5 universities joining us for the stimulating weekend.  Images and more information about that weekend symposium can be found at lindadarty.com

Linda Darty, long time area coordinator and Professor in Metal Design has also recently begun directing the ECU College of Fine Arts and Communication’s Italy Study Abroad Program.  During two 3-week summer sessions students can earn 6 credits studying studio arts, art history, theatre, communication and music.  In spring of 2011 she will launch the ITALY ART INTENSIVES spring study abroad semester program.  From late January until early May students will live and work in Certaldo, Italy, near Florence and Siena.  During these intensive workshop courses students can study enameling, painting, photography, illustration, art history, Italian and a professional practices course appropriate for all art majors that includes, web design, job application portfolio preparation,grant writing and other essentials for marketing one’s skills as an artist.
