Michael Ehlbeck is Professor of Printmaking at the ECU School of Art and Design. He graduated from the University of Florida with an MFA from Ken Kerslake and a BFA from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign with Dennis Rowan. Michael Ehlbeck began teaching at the School of Art and Design at East Carolina University in 1975. He primarily works with relief and intaglio processes, including mezzotint, engraving, and most notably, etching. Ehlbeck's large-scale etchings have been commissioned and hang in the Atlanta International Airport and his large-scale Hong Kong and Cologne, Germany cityscapes have been shown nationally and internationally, and are housed in several significant collections. Most recently, one of Ehlbeck’s drawings will be included in the 2009 Bradley International Print and Drawing Exhibition.

Received a Summer Stipend Award from the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, East Carolina University. The award involved traveling to Cologne,
Germany to prepare drawings and take photographs of the St. Kolumba Catholic Church excavation site. A 6'H x 4'W etching was commissioned as part of the project.
