School of Theatre and Dance Audition Policy
All Theatre Performance BFAs, Theatre Education majors, students in advanced theatre techniques classes, and intended Theatre for Youth majors are REQUIRED to audition for main-stage and Theatre for Youth–Storybook Theatre productions.
WE WELCOME EVERYONE (students, faculty, and community) TO AUDITION FOR ALL PRODUCTIONS.
The acting faculty strongly believes that the audition experience and process is an important aspect of a student's training. Therefore, auditioning for all productions is strongly encouraged (and in some cases required). The outcome of the audition process (i.e., whether or not you are cast) may not be as important as the audition experience, itself. If you have work obligations, put them on your audition form, and the director will take them into consideration. Active participation in the school is a consideration in evaluating candidates for the Professional Acting Training Program and for scholarships. All students are encouraged, but not required, to audition for Workshops and Directing Projects.
THE FOLLOWING STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO AUDITION FOR ALL MAIN STAGE PRODUCTIONS:
-
Professional Acting Training Students: (THEA 2010, 2020, 3010, 3020).
-
TV and Film Students and those in Professional Preparation: (THEA 4025, 4026, 4070)
-
Advanced Acting Students (THEA 3050, 3060)
-
BFA Acting and Musical Theatre students in their fifth year or beyond.
-
Declared Musical Theatre Majors and those in THEA 3090, 3095, 4090, and 4095.
Failure to fulfill audition requirements is grounds for disciplinary action by the Acting Faculty, including suspension from the BFA program.
