DarbyLeonard Darby has been a member of the ECU faculty since 1981.  He served as Technical Director for The ECU/Loessin Playhouse for 24 years and served in the same role for many years with The ECU Summer Theatre.  Combining the two, he has overseen scenic production on close to 150 productions.  Prior to ECU, Leonard worked as a technician, scenic artist, technical director, and scenic designer in a number of professional venues including the internationally acclaimed Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., The Barter Theatre, The Virginia Museum Theatre (now Theatre Virginia), The Piedmont Repertory Company, The Asolo Theatre in Sarasota, Florida, and others. During his tenure at ECU, he has worked off-campus as technical director for The Lost Colony and as properties master and technician for four tours throughout Western Europe of the Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess.  He also performed in the opera in the non-singing role of the Policeman and understudied the Detective.  Leonard is now teaching Introduction to Theatre, where he enjoys sharing his love of and experience in theatre. Mr. Darby holds a BFA and MFA in Theatre: Scenic Design, from Florida State University.
