ECU/Loessin Summer Theatre

Summer Theatre

Due to the budget state budget problems at the beginning of this fiscal year, the ECU/Loessin Summer Theatre did not receive its annual funding for this year.  This makes the 2010 summer season impracticable.  But, as so often in life, when one door shuts, a window opens somewhere else.

A terrific opportunity has opened up for us just down the road in Manteo.  We’ve been talking with the folks at the Roanoke Island Festival Park about providing live theatre and dance as a part of their summer series.  Since we’re not going to be able to produce shows in Greenville this summer, this became the perfect time to give it a go.

We’re planning on producing three shows this summer for them:

The Fantasticks, June 15-17 (the musical by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones that was last performed by the Summer Theatre in 2006);

 Moonshine and Molasses, June 22-24 (a full length jazz dance piece by our own Tommi Galaska set to the music by the Uncle Mountain band); and

 A George M. Cohan’ish review (we’re still working on this one) June 29-July 4.

 We hope to see you in the audience this summer and there is no cost to attend these shows.  There’s more information available at their web site: www.roanokeisland.com.
