The ECU/Loessin Summer Theatre has been offered a unique opportunity for the 2008 season. We will produce a slate of three plays—two musicals and a hilarious “classic” comedy—in the Turnage Theater, a beautiful, newly and completely renovated, exceptionally comfortable performing space in Washington, NC. The Turnage, which has risen gloriously from the ruins of an historic vaudeville theatre, offers the Summer Theatre a marvelous temporary home while our campus facility, the McGinnis Theatre, undergoes some much-needed refurbishment of vital infrastructure. Performing at the Turnage will allow the Summer Theatre both to continue production in summer ’08, while effecting repairs to and to help a fellow theatre become permanently established in the region.

First (June 26 –July 5) will be Sandy Wilson’s The Boy Friend.  This is a marvelously funny, song-and-dance-filled spoof of the Roaring Twenties and British aristocracy.  Next (July 11-19) is one of the all-time favorite comedies, Arsenic and Old Lace. You’ll fall in love with the two murderous spinsters who mix “just a pinch” of poison to their famous (infamous?) elderberry wine.  Our third show (July 24-August 2) is The All Night Strut!  Featuring songs from Hoagy Carmichael, Duke Ellington, Johnny Mercer, and the Gershwins, young and old will raise the rafters in this celebration of songs of the 30’s and 40’s.
