The Heart Institute at Vidant Medical Center has 120 cardiovascular beds, six state of the art operating rooms, seven interventional laboratories, three electrophysiology labs, and a heart-healthy café.

The East Carolina Heart Center at East Carolina University is an outpatient center and also serves as the primary teaching and research location for the Institute. It contains offices and research labs for cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, vascular surgeons, and scientists—as well as exam rooms, a rehabilitation center, and a 250-seat auditorium.

The Robotic Research and Training Center works closely with the Department of Comparative Medicine for its courses, often using porcine, bovine, and canine models. A fully staffed and equipped surgical suite and diagnostic laboratory are available for research support. The surgical-support area area includes a postoperative recovery chamber for large and small animals. The diagnostic laboratory has hematology, clinical chemistry, parasitology, and microbiology capabilities.
