Project Type: Core Prevention/Intervention
Project Description: The project objectives:
- Establish communication centers in Honduras and North Carolina where migrants and their family members can communicate through e-mail messages via compatible computers and software.
- Facilitate more in-depth communication between migrants and their families with the use of video letters and other methods proposed by the families we enroll in the study.
- Assess the impacts of these forms of improved communication on migrants’ and their family members; health.
- We hypothesize that this project will result in improved mental health to those Honduran families who participate in the research. However, we also anticipate that this research will yield information that we can use to develop a larger, more inclusive project on the relations among communication, transnational migration, and health in the rural Americas.
