Enhancing the Culture of Leadership in the College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS)
Spring, Summer, Fall 2010

In January 2010 the BB&T Leadership Enhancement Fund awarded the College a grant to enhance the culture of leadership in the college by emphasizing the roles, responsibilities, skills, and use of language and artifacts related to culture. Project activities will focus on faculty-student mentorship activities. The outcomes will be the development of leadership abilities, traits, and skills for student and faculty members of the CAHS community. A Leadership Mentor Conference for advisers and student leaders of CAHS student organizations will prepare student officers and faculty advisers to incorporate new leadership activities into CAHS student organizations. In addition, two Leadership Consultants will develop AH leadership websites, assist in incorporating leadership language into course materials and implement an on line student leadership module. The CAHS Student Leaders Council will be instrumental in the implementation of the grant.

The CAHS students through the Student Leaders Council and the professional student organizations, CAHS faculty through departmental faculty meetings, and the CAHS Administrative Council consisting of department chairs and dean's office administration and staff provided input to the grant team consisting of Dean Stephen Thomas, Associate Dean Kevin O'Brien, Assistant Dean Beth Velde, and Dr. Kathy Cox used the input to develop the grant.
