Goals & Objectives
Maximize the academic success of medical, nursing, and allied health science students, and medical residents.
- Provide assessment and interventions in the areas of study skills, test taking skills, reading, learning and cognitive development.
- Provide assessment and interventions related to academic, performance anxiety, and attention deficit.
- Provide preparation programs which maximize the medical and nursing students' ability to pass the United States Medical Licensing Examination (Step 1 and Step 2) and NCLEX for Nursing.
Maximize the personal development of medical, nursing, and allied health science students.
- Provide assessment and interventions focused on the personal concerns of students including but not limited to stress management, anxiety control, interpersonal skills and personal adjustment.
- Provide support to the students' significant others to assist in the personal adjustment to the demands that medical education places on relationships.
- Provide medical students with the awareness and skills necessary for dealing with diverse populations.
Maximize the academic success of pre-medical, pre-nursing, and allied health science students.
- Provide assessment and interventions in the areas of study skills, reading, learning and cognitive development.
- Provide assessment and referral of personal adjustment issues.
- Provide assistance with improving performance on the MCAT.
Recruit minority and disadvantaged students for all medical careers.
- Market all medical careers to minority and disadvantaged undergraduates.
- Prepare and assist students in their preparation for and application to all professional schools.
- Prepare minority and disadvantaged students for success in medical school via the intensive summer preparation program.
- Increase the awareness of the public school and population related to medical and health science careers and the emphasis ECU and School of Medicine places on admission, matriculation and graduation of minority and disadvantaged students.
