BSOM Personal Counseling

Personal Counseling for Medical Students
Training in the medical and healthcare fields is extremely stressful. Students in this academic arena experience many unique hurdles that may challenge success. The time dedicated to achieving professional and academic goals may require learning new problem solving skills. To aid in the development of these skills, confidential personal counseling and psychiatric services are provided to students to assess sources of stress, facilitate personal and academic growth, develop improved coping strategies, and serve as an advocacy service for students.

Personal counseling services for medical students are provided by ECU Physicians Psychiatric Outpatient Center located at 905 Johns Hopkins Drive in Greenville, NC 27834. Office hours are from 8:00AM-5:00PM each day with other times also available to fit students’ schedules. Individual counseling, group therapy as well as psychological and cognitive assessment are provided by the Center’s staff of licensed psychologists and mental health professionals to assist students with concerns which include but are not limited to:

  • depression
  • anxiety
  • loneliness
  • feelings of inadequacy
  • self-defeating behaviors
  • learning difficulties
  • academic performance
  • post-traumatic stress
  • substance abuse
  • domestic abuse
  • sexual concerns
  • eating disorders
  • family/relationship issues
  • crisis situations (i.e. broken relationship or death of a loved one)

For a personal counseling appointment, medical students should contact ECU Physicians Psychiatric Outpatient Center, 905 Johns Hopkins Drive, Greenville NC or call the Center directly at (252)-744-1408.
