Effective education is an integral component of the Brody School of Medicine (BSOM) Compliance Program. We encourage every employee to take advantage of our Office’s ongoing educational opportunities relating to compliance at the BSOM. We offer general compliance training to all new employees [New Employee Orientation]. As part of our provider monitoring activities, we also offer individual educational sessions regarding documentation and coding for those providers whose documentation has been reviewed. Please contact us at any time if you would like an individual education session related to documentation and coding, even if you have not been selected for a random documentation review.
If you or your department has a particular compliance topic of interest, we would be happy to provide the relevant training or information. Given the current government enforcement initiatives, suggested topics include research compliance, conflict of interest issues, pharmaceutical and device company consulting arrangements and the Federal Anti-kickback statute, understanding the basics of the Stark law (the law prohibiting physician self-referrals), and specialty-specific documentation and coding training.
For BSOM clinical trial coordinators, we currently offer a bimonthly lunch and learn series. You can access the schedule via this link [Schedule]. You can also click on the Online Education link below to access Compliance presentations from prior sessions. If you have a particular topic you would like discussed at one of our lunch and learn sessions, or you would like to be a speaker for one of our sessions, please contact us at 744-5200 or kavuruj@ecu.edu.
