Kenneth DeVille, PhD, JD, is the Chief Institutional Integrity Officer (CIIO) for the Division of Health Sciences, East Carolina University and its HIPAA Privacy Officer.  He serves, in addition, as the University Ethics Liaison to the North Carolina State Ethics Commission. In his CIIO role, DeVille develops and oversees regulatory compliance solutions for multiple activities across the health sciences.  As the ECU HIPAA Privacy Officer, he serves as the HIPAA privacy consultant to the University, and provides leadership on specific regulatory issues and oversight related to the HIPAA Privacy Act.  DeVille earned his PhD from Rice University and his Law Degree from the University of Texas School of Law.  He is certified in Superior Court Mediation and in mediation by the Mediation Network of North Carolina.  He is licensed to practice law in North Carolina and Florida.  DeVille is Professor of Bioethics at Brody School of Medicine and has published and edited numerous books, articles, book chapters and professional publications in the areas of healthcare ethics, law, regulation, policy and compliance.

Michelle C. Evans is the Healthcare Regulatory Specialist for the Office of Institutional Integrity in the Division of Health Sciences.  In this role, Ms. Evans assists in the development, maintenance and administration of programs and policies that create, enhance and sustain compliance and integrity across the Health Sciences Division.  She is responsible for developing and implementing such programs in support of the clinical services and academic goals of the Division.  Ms. Evans has experience with compliance administration, HIPAA regulations, and risk management.  She completed her Bachelor of Arts from North Carolina State University and her Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Community Health Administration at East Carolina University.

Ms. Styron is a Billing Compliance Manager for the Office of Institutional Integrity. Her duties include overseeing the Billing Compliance Reviewers who monitor physician compliance with documentation and coding guidelines in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Ms. Styron also coordinates and performs reviews of medical records and billing documents for the purpose of providing physicians and other billing personnel the feedback and instruction necessary to improve documentation and coding. She is an AHIMA Approved ICD-10 Trainer . Ms. Styron received her Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management and Health Services Management from East Carolina University.

Her duties include monitoring physician compliance with documentation and coding guidelines in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Ms. Lang also coordinates and performs reviews of medical records and billing documents for the purpose of providing physicians and other billing personnel the feedback and instruction necessary to improve documentation and coding. She is an AHIMA Approved ICD-10 Trainer. Ms. Lang received her Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management from East Carolina University.

Ms. Dudley is a Billing Compliance Reviewer for the Office of Institutional Integrity. Her duties include monitoring physician compliance with documentation and coding guidelines in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Ms. Dudley also coordinates and performs reviews of medical records and billing documents for the purpose of providing physicians and other billing personnel the feedback and instruction necessary to improve documentation and coding. She has been a Coding Specialist at Trust Healthcare Consulting Services, Altegra Health, and UHS Physicians. Ms. Dudley received her Associates in Science Degree from Everest University.

Ms. Ross is a Billing Compliance Reviewer for the Office of Institutional Integrity. Her duties include monitoring physician compliance with documentation and coding guidelines in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Ms. Ross also coordinates and performs reviews of medical records and billing documents for the purpose of providing physicians and other billing personnel the feedback and instruction necessary to improve documentation and coding. She comes to the office with experience in coding, billing, and insurance claims at Thoracic and Vascular Associates of Kinston and experience as a Medical Coder with the Brody School of Medicine Department of Obstetrics/Gynecology. She received her Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management and Health Services Management from East Carolina University.

Ms. Perry is the Executive Assistant for the Office of Institutional Integrity.  Her responsibilities include providing support to the Chief Institutional Integrity Officer, receiving HIPAA Privacy Complaints and investigation of such complaints as well as managing Compliance and HIPAA training for all of East Carolina University's designated Health Care Components.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Communication from East Carolina University.



Pam Martin

Ms. Martin is the Administrative Support Associate for the Office of Institutional Integrity. Her responsibilities include administrative support to the Healthcare Regulatory Specialist and the Compliance Billing Manager. She assists with maintaining various databases for the office, and website coordination and development. She also provides clerical assistance for the Billing Compliance Reviewers. She has been involved in multiple University projects for several application and program operation efforts.
