Dr. Stephen Bogdewic is Executive Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development at Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Bogdewic holds appointments in Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Medicine, and Public and Environmental Affairs. He is Past President of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine and of the Indiana University School of Medicine faculty, and is also one of the co-hosts of Sound Medicine, a weekly public radio program sponsored by the Indiana University School of Medicine and WFYI Public Radio.
Dr. Bogdewic is a nationally recognized lecturer, consultant, and educator and has conducted over 500 workshops and presentations to various professional organizations. He directed a major faculty development fellowship program for six years and currently serves as a core faculty member in several national faculty development fellowship programs.
At this intensive, four-day program, participants will obtain essential perspectives, knowledge, and skills for careers at all levels in academic medicine. The workshop will focus upon increasing effectiveness and satisfaction in interactions with colleagues, supervisors, students, residents, and personnel within the Division of Health Sciences at ECU and other institutions and professional organizations.
Program topics this year have been tailored to the needs of faculty and include:
- How to maintain one's academic vitality throughout a career
- Leadership
- Feedback
- Negotiation
- Maximizing mentor relationships
- Organizational citizenship
The program format has been developed for participants to gain knowledge and develop measurable skills in each of these areas.
Objectives
Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to:
- Implement steps to increase their effectiveness within their departments, BSOM, and ECU
- Provide feedback effectively to learners, supervisors, subordinates, and colleagues
- Negotiate to improve their professional effectiveness
- Identify colleagues for on-going support and collaborative mentoring during their career at Brody School of Medicine
- Assess and improve their leadership competencies
- Identify ways that you can contribute to a culture that can enhance the vitality of you and your colleagues
Participation is limited. To participate in this conference, please complete and submit the Workshop Registration Form. The cost of tuition, dining, and materials for ECU faculty will be assumed by the Office of Academic and Faculty Development. Space is limited. Application deadline is February 4, 2008.
Accreditation
The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
Credit
The Brody School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 20.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only those credits commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
