Access to the most current medical literature is essential for clinicians, researchers, and teachers at all levels in academic health science centers. This session will teach participants to effectively search Medline using the PubMed interface, which is freely available through the National Library of Medicine. A summary of the different strengths and weaknesses of each interface will be given. In addition, there will be instruction on how to use RefWorks to save and organize citations from both PubMed and Ovid's Medline.

Objectives
Upon completion of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Complete a topic search in Medline via Ovid and PubMed
  • Utilize MeSH headings, combination of terms, limits, save/e-mail features, auto alerts, My NCBI and personal Ovid accounts
  • Import citations into RefWorks from PubMed and Ovid, create and format bibliography, download Write-n-Cite, save and move items in folders, use Write-n-Cite to type a paper
  • Contact Laupus Library or utilize our services and resources for help
