MASTER EDUCATOR SERIES
GEN-Y

January 7, 2010
1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Brody 2W-50, 2W-40b

P. J. Schenarts, MD, FACS
Associate Professor of Surgery
Director, General Surgery Residency Program

PURPOSE:
The purpose of this workshop is to help those involved with medical student or resident education utilize generation specific strategies to initially attract and then recruit members of Generation Y to their program. A second purpose is to provide information on management styles that will be more effective with this generation than the more traditional methods.

METHODS:
In order to place this issue within context, the workshop will begin with an overview of the medical world these students will inherent. This will be followed by an interactive group learning session, where the group will explore ways to exploit the specific generational characteristic of Generation Y in three principle areas; generating initial interest in your program, development of recruitment strategies, and generational specific management principles.

KNOWLEDGE TO BE ACQUIRED:
At the completion of the workshop participants will understand how to attract Generation Y through the use of digital technology. Despite being raised as team players, members of Generation Y consider themselves special. Therefore after this workshop participants will know how to set up the interview experience to capitalize on both these traits. Finally after completion of this workshop participants will understand how to align their organizational policies and structures to this generation's strengths, weaknesses, desires and expectations.

Participation is limited. To participate, please complete and submit the Workshop Registration Form or call the Office of Academic and Faculty Development at 744-3420.
