E-LEARNING LOUNGE MODULE
LECTURE AND PRESENTATION SKILLS

Lecturing and large group presentations are essential and expected activities for faculties in Academic Health Centers. Skills in these areas are key for those who teach learners (students, residents, fellows, and colleagues) and for meeting institutional promotion and tenure criteria based on teaching abilities. This e-learning module is designed to provide participants with information to meet those needs.

Objectives
Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to:

  • Describe appropriate and inappropriate uses of lectures
  • List effective and ineffective techniques for using audiovisual teaching aids
  • Discuss presentation skills including: eye contact; vocal variety; body language; use of notes; and relaxing

Participation
This module includes reading materials, a twenty-minute video presentation, and a post-test. It is estimated that it will require approximately 1 hour to complete this module. Successful completion of the self-assessment at the conclusion of the session is required in order to obtain CME credit for participating in this e-learning activity.

Accreditation
The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is accredited by the Accreditation Council of Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit
The Brody School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Each physician should claim only those credits commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

System Requirements
Participation in this online CME program requires a Windows-compatible operating system, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, or higher. Internet Explorer 5.0 or Netscape 4.7 (or higher) and Adobe Reader are also required. If you are using a modem to connect to the internet, you will need a modem speed of at least 56K.
