CLINICAL TEACHING

This module will explore a model of clinical teaching that builds on a concept of adult learning. The module will also relate clinical teaching to generally accepted techniques of coaching football and recommend that some of the techniques are appropriate for the clinical setting. The module will also present clinical teaching in the format of organization of a day in an ambulatory care clinic setting, i.e., setting expectations at the beginning of a day, discussing patient care using "The One Minute Preceptor" approach and debriefing at the end of the day. Finally, the module will discuss giving feedback on performance in the clinical.
Objectives
Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to:
- Discuss a theory of clinical instruction
- Relate clinical instruction to coaching
- Implement a strategy for precepting in the clinical setting
- Discuss an approach for giving feedback on performance
Participation
This module includes reading materials, a twenty-minute video presentation, and a post-test. It is estimated that it will require approximately 1 hour to complete this module.
System Requirements
Participation in this online program requires a Windows-compatible operating system, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, or higher. Internet Explorer 5.0 or Netscape 4.7 (or higher) and Adobe Reader are also required. If you are using a modem to connect to the internet, you will need a modem speed of at least 56K.
