Visiting Medical Student Program

Students from US LCME Accredited schools (AAMC)
Students from Osteopathic Schools (AACOM)
International Medical Schools (US or Non-US Students)

Medical students not enrolled at BSOM who request electives at our institution will be prioritized for rotation based on the following categories.

Students enrolled in Duke, UNC or Wake Forest (NC Exchange Program)
Students enrolled in an LCME Accredited medical schools
Students enrolled in an osteopathic schools
US Citizens enrolled in International medical schools
Non-US citizens enrolled in International medical schools.

Visiting students are accepted only for fourth year selectives.

Brody School of Medicine will be using VSAS, the Visiting Student Application Service, to receive visiting student applications for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Applications may be submitted through VSAS starting on April 1, 2009. To apply to our school, please complete and send us a VSAS application for your preferred electives and dates.

Visiting Students From Osteopathic Schools

Applications for the 2009 - 2010 academic year may be submitted starting April 1, 2009 for electives that beginning on July 6, 2009.

A completed visiting student application will included the following:

Completed Osteopathic application form,
Completed Immunization form (Immunization information as provided on the BSOM Immunization Form),
Completed School Verification form
Complete a Criminal Background Check and fax it to the Office of Student Affairs.
Proof of personal heath insurance (Copy of Insurance Card)
Evaluation/Grading form
Passing Step 1 and or Complex 1
HIPAA Compliance confirmation
Signed Confidentiality Statement for University Health Systems
Signed Confidentiality Statement for Brody School of Medicine

Visiting Students from International Schools

Applications for the 2009 - 2010 academic year may be submitted starting April 1, 2009 for electives that beginning on July 6, 2009.

A completed International Visiting Student Application will included the following:

Completed international application form;
Completed Immunization from; (Immunization information as provided on the BSOM Health Statement form only will be accepted);
Completed Medical School Verification form;
Verification of a Criminal Background check with proof of no adverse activities. Fax to the Office of Student Affairs, 252-744-3250
Proof of Citizenship, copy of your passport.
Official transcript from home medical school, indicating successful completion of all required clinical core clerkships in Medicine, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Pediatrics, and Surgery
Course descriptions of the required clinical core clerkship in Medicine, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Pediatrics, and Surgery to include detailed information on clinical care in an in-patient setting in which the applicant has actively participated;
A Curriculum vitae;
A letter of recommendation from a clinical faculty member with whom the student has worked in a clinical, inpatient setting. The letter should discuss the student's clinical abilities and skills;
Passing test scores from Step 1 of the USMLE
A letter of fluency in English from the home institution, documenting both oral and written skills as well as Medical English.
Proof of Universal Precaution (OSHA) training (Photocopy of certificate or statement from home medical school);
2 passport size/quality photographs
Proof of personal heath insurance (Copy of Insurance Card)
Evaluation/Grade Form;
Signed Confidentiality Statement for University Health Systems;
Signed Confidentiality State for Brody School of Medicine.
