Students pursuing the Clinical Chemistry and Hematology Minor must take CHEM 2250, 2251.
Students pursuing the Hematology and Immunohematology Minor must take CHEM 2770, 2771.
Though specific prerequisites are not required for the Clinical Laboratory Science Generalist Minor, students are advised to complete a minimum of 4 Biology and 4 Chemistry courses with labs for science majors, prior to taking any of the CLSC courses.
Note: Students pursuing any of the 3 categorical certification-eligible minors must make application for admission to the selected minor by February 1 prior to the Fall semester they wish to begin taking courses for the minor. Students admitted to pursue these 3 minors are processed once a year and begin courses in the Fall semester. For admission details, see the department’s website at www.ecu.edu/clsc. (click on Admissions) . Formal admission is not required to pursue the Clinical Laboratory Science Generalist minor.

NON-CERTIFICATION ELIGIBLE MINOR
Clinical Laboratory Science Generalist Minor
The CLSC Generalist Minor is designed primarily for students intending to go into a health profession (e.g., physician, registered nurse) that want to obtain more knowledge of how clinical laboratory test results are used in patient diagnosis and treatment management. Over 70% of patient diagnoses and treatment decisions are made based on clinical laboratory test results. This minor does NOT provide any certification eligibility upon graduation. Some large reference and public health labs will hire biology and chemistry degree graduates, and this minor might offer greater likelihood of employment in such settings. After a few years experience in a specific area(s) of the lab, categorical certification eligibility may be obtained in the specific area(s) worked in through NCA or ASCP. This minor, though, is predominantly designed for pre-med and pre-nursing students who want more background knowledge in utilizing medical laboratory test results in patient care. The required courses for the Clinical Laboratory Science Generalist Minor are:
CLSC 3430 Clinical Immunology 2 sh
And Other CLSC lecture courses 22 sh
TOTAL 24 sh
CLSC laboratory and clinical rotation courses along with CLSC 4801, 4802, 4491, and 4492 cannot be taken by Clinical Laboratory Science Generalist Minor students.
