WELCOME
 

The Department of Comparative Medicine is a basic science department in the Brody School of Medicine dedicated to promoting science through good animal care.

Our department supports the University's research programs by providing quality animal husbandry, veterinary care and Animal Care and Use Committee support. We offer a wide array of technical services and expertise with a variety of animal models.

The Department of Comparative Medicine comprises approximately 70,000 sq ft of animal housing and support space in the Brody Medical Science and Warren Life Science buildings. Our animal care program and facilities are fully accredited by the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation for Laboratory Animal Care, International (AAALAC, Intl).

Our facilities are modern, fully automated and consist of animal rooms, support laboratories, biocontainment, surgery facilities and cage washing. A wide array of caging systems are available for animal housing.

Personnel provide research support by performing daily animal care and husbandry, assisting with technical procedures, extensive surgical support and widespread, automated clinical diagnostic and anatomic pathology services.

The Department is dedicated to providing the highest quality animal resource to support the University's research and teaching goals, to promote and assure humane care and use of animals through compliance with the Animal Welfare Act, Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare, AAALAC International and University policies for the humane care and use of animals.
