Ms. Julia Morrow, MA is the Coordinator of External Clinical Education and will work with students to find appropriate clinical sites, in their geographic areas, to complete their 25 observation and a minimum of 375 practicum clock hours. Appropriate sites include public schools, private practices, hospitals, nursing homes, and other agencies where individuals receive speech and language services on a regular basis. Students must be supervised by speech-language pathologists who are certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and licensed by their state, as appropriate.
Students will begin their practica in the summer of their first year of the program. Availability of appropriate sites depends on many factors and Ms. Morrow will work with each student to find sites that will give each student a successful and rewarding experience. If there are no appropriate sites in their specific geographical area, students must be prepared to come to the ECU campus for their first clinical experience. This is an 11 week session that begins around May 15 and ends July 31.
Students must have at least 2 full days or 4 half days per week to complete their clock hours during the second and third years of the program. Students can not complete their clock hours by going to sites in the evenings and weekends, or in the summers only. Students should expect not to work full-time after the first 2 semesters. Internships can be 2-5 days per week depending on the site. Part-time jobs must be scheduled around internship assignments.
