Non-Degree Seeking Students (Non-matriculating)


Categories of non-degree students:

(1) Students who have a Bachelor's degree in a related field and need the on-line prerequisite courses to apply to our on-line Master's degree program.

(2) Students with a Bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences & Disorders (CSD) or Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) and wish to take an on-line course for continuing their education.

(3) Students who are currently enrolled in a Master's degree program in CSD or SLP and would like to take courses to transfer credit to their degree granting institutions.

(4) Students who have a Master's degree in Communication Sciences & Disorders or Speech-Language Pathology and wish to take an on-line course for CEUs or job retention.

For Category 1 students: (Students with a BA or BS needing prerequisite courses)

Any student interested in taking the on-line prerequisites must email Dr. Kathleen Cox on March 1 of each year, for the following fall semester. Only 20 students are allowed to take the prerequisite courses on-line. So, the first 20 students to email Dr. Cox on March 1 AND who meet the GPA and GRE* criteria, will be selected for the prerequisites and subsequently notified. The undergraduate GPA must be at least 3.0, and the GRE scores must be above the 30th percentile in both the Verbal and Quantitative sections.  This information must be included in the email request on March 1. These will need to be verified by sending transcripts and the GRE scores directly to Dr. Cox, once the student is notified of a seat in the prerequisites.  Students who apply to the Graduate School before obtaining a seat from Dr. Cox will forfeit their application fee and may not get a seat in the courses.

Once notified of having a seat in the prerequisites, the student must (1) apply to the ECU graduate school as a non-degree seeking student (Dr. Cox will send instructions with acceptanceand (2) fill out the Non-degree Seeking Student Request form which is sent to you by Dr. Cox. Once approved to take courses by the GRADUATE SCHOOL, you must contact Dr. Cox for registration of the courses. Non-degree students can not enroll themselves in classes.

For Category 2 Students: (Students with a BA or BS in CSD wanting to continue their education

For students who have a BA or BS degree in CSD and wish to take introductory graduate level coursework, contact Dr. Kathleen Cox 8 weeks prior to the first day of  classes. Students must be able to show proof of a 3.0 undergraduate GPA, and above the 30th percentile in both the Verbal and Quantitative sections of the GRE. Once approved by Dr. Cox to take courses, the student must (1) apply to the ECU graduate school as a non-degree seeking student (Dr. Cox will send instructions with acceptance) and (2) fill out the Non-degree Seeking Student Request form which is sent to you by Dr. Cox. Once approved to take courses by the GRADUATE SCHOOL, you must contact Dr. Cox for registration of the courses. Non-degree students can not enroll themselves in classes.

For Category 3 Students: (Students who are currently enrolled in a Master's degree program in CSD or SLP and would like to take courses to transfer credit to their degree granting institutions.)

AND

For Category 4 Students: (Students who have a Master's degree in Communication Sciences & Disorders or Speech-Language Pathology and wish to take an on-line course for CEUs or job retention.

Each semester, we may have a few seats available in our on-line courses for graduate students. Availability of seats is dependent on the specific course and instructor consent. Each course will have prerequisites which must be met before permission is granted to take a course. Our course descriptions and the prerequisites for each are listed here. To request a course, students must contact Dr. Kathleen Cox 8 weeks prior to the first day of classes of the semester in which the course is offered. Students must be able to show proof of a 3.0 Undergraduate GPA, and above the 30th percentile in both the Verbal and Quantitative sections of the GRE.  Once approved by Dr. Cox to take a course, the student must (1) apply to the ECU graduate school as a non-degree seeking student (Dr. Cox will send instructions with acceptance), and (2) fill out the Non-degree Seeking Student Request form which is sent to you by Dr. Cox.

For Category 3 students (those wishing to transfer credit to another institution), you must also provide approval from your advisor at the degree granting institution.
